Two things of interest happen at the beginning of November - Daylight Savings end and Election Day occurs. Daylight savings has already ended, and, like many people, I'm feeling the effects of it. I feel so tired all day long! But, then again, I felt tired all day long before it changed too, haha, so maybe it's not really the shorter day that's doing it. But regardless, I'm already waiting on Spring to come along! And we haven't even gotten to the early darkness yet! Speaking of darkness it's also Election Day today! Of course I've already been to vote, and I of course voted to get the darkness out of Mississippi and send Cindy Hides-a-Lot packing! We need a blue wave to come along and wash away these hypocritical, pedophile-pandering, lacking-in-empathy conservative assholes and make Mississippi Kind and Prosperous again!
So hopefully we'll have enough Democrats voting to make a difference!
So why is November the time for voting? Because in our past, we were very much an agrarian nation, and farmers wouldn't want to leave their crops to make the long trek to the county seat to vote. Back then, there weren't polling places in every community. So November was a perfect time because, for much of the country, it wasn't too cold yet, and most crops had already been worked through and harvested. So therefore, early November was an ideal time.
So why Tuesday? Sunday would probably have been a better option, except for the fact most people back then went to church on Sunday and couldn't be bothered to do something as important as voting on a day set aside as the sabbath. Monday voting would require the farmers to travel on Sunday in order to get there to vote, and that wasn't going to happen either. Using Tuesday as voting day allowed the farmers to travel on Monday, vote on Tuesday, and get back home on Wednesday. Travel back in those days was truly a hassle! For my vote this morning, it took 20 minutes. I left the house at 7:40am, drove to the polling place, stood in a short line, voted, sat in the car for a few minutes taking a selfie and posting on Facebook that I voted, drove home, and was in the house by 8:00am. Twenty whole minutes to leave the house, vote, and return home. Not three days!
As time passed, the reason for voting on the first Tuesday in November has rotted away, but we still honor the day set aside as tradition. And honestly, it's fitting that we vote when the gloom begins, since many times voting in South Mississippi can be all gloom and doom. And the season also reminds us that it will get darker before the light returns, and that we shouldn't give up just because all seems lost, dead, and cold.
Below are just a few images. The first is one I took of Ian in the kitchen. The second is what ChatGPT rendered after I asked it to make the image spooky lol. And then the third is Cooper sharing some love with his daddy!
Ok, gonna have to end here and start getting ready for work. I hope everyone has a fantastic day, and remember, go VOTE!!!!
