On The 7th Day of HalloweenMonday, October 7, 2024 On the seventh day of Halloween, my true love gave to me 7 witches stirring, 6 skeletons clacking, 5 crows a'murderin', 4 ghouls a'dancin', 3 spiders spinning, 2 zombies running, and a vulture in the Halloween tree! Happy Monday, everyone! Let's start this week off right and own the week! Grrr and pshaw to whatever or whoever attempts to make our week bad! On this seventh day of Halloween, I am grateful for having a job that pays the bills, a loving relationship with 2 of the most wonderful men in the world, and for Maggie and Cooper, who always give me unconditional love and get it from me in return!An interesting piece of history here concerning modern Halloween practices in the United States from SUNY - Albany: "Halloween came to the United States when European immigrants "brought their varied Halloween customs with them". In the second half of the nineteenth century, America was flooded with new immigrants including the Irish fleeing from the potato famine in Ireland in 1846. By combining Irish and English traditions, Americans began the "trick-or-treat" tradition. In the later 1800's the holiday became more centered on community and in the 1920's and 1930's, Halloween became 'a secular, but community-centered holiday'. In the 1950's leaders changed Halloween as a holiday aimed at the young to limit vandalism. This all led to what Halloween actually is like today."
